Arborist-Led Tree Removal in Snohomish County
Arborist-led removal, thinning and stump grinding. Because the owner is a certified arborist, the trees and the dirt work happen on one mobilisation.
Arborist-Led Tree Removal
Tree removal looks simple from the ground and rarely is. A mature Douglas fir over a house has one safe direction to fall and several expensive ones, and the difference between them is rigging, assessment and experience — not horsepower.
An experienced arborist assesses the tree before anything is cut: species, lean, decay, root condition, what is underneath, and whether removal is even the right call. Sometimes crown reduction or selective thinning solves the problem and keeps a tree that adds real value to the property.
DirtRaptor is unusual in that the owner brings twenty years of tree experience and runs the excavation himself. That means the tree comes down, the stump comes out, and the ground gets repaired on one visit — instead of a tree crew leaving a stump and ruts for someone else to deal with.
Worth Knowing
Many Washington cities regulate tree removal on private property, and several require a permit or an arborist report before a healthy tree over a certain diameter comes down. Removing first and asking later can carry fines well above the cost of the removal itself.

The Process
How a Tree Removal Runs
Removals are planned before they are cut. The assessment is where the risk is managed.
Arborist Assessment
The tree is evaluated for species, structure, decay, lean and root health, and we confirm whether removal, reduction or retention is the right answer. Where a permit or arborist report is required, we identify it here.
Rigging & Drop-Zone Plan
We establish whether the tree can be felled whole or has to be taken down in sections and rigged out. Structures, fences, utilities and irrigation get identified and protected before a saw starts.
Removal & Sectioning
The tree comes down in a controlled sequence. Timber is bucked on site, either stacked for you as firewood or loaded out depending on what you want.
Stump Grinding & Site Repair
Stump ground below grade or excavated where something is being built. Ruts repaired and the ground left walkable — the step most tree crews skip because they do not own the machines to do it.

Pricing
What Drives Tree Removal Cost
Height matters far less than what surrounds the tree. Risk and access set the price.
What Is Underneath
A tree in an open field can often be felled whole in minutes. The same tree over a roof, a fence or a power line has to be climbed and rigged down in sections — a completely different job at a completely different price.
Size, Species & Condition
Diameter drives volume and disposal. Decayed or storm-damaged trees are less predictable and require more conservative technique, which takes longer.
Debris Handling
Whether wood stays on site as firewood, gets chipped, or is hauled out entirely changes both the truck time and the dump fees.
The fastest route to an accurate number is a site walk. Quotes are free and there is no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Snohomish County?
+
It depends on the jurisdiction and the tree. Unincorporated Snohomish County, Everett, Edmonds, Bellevue and Seattle all handle private-property tree removal differently, and several require a permit or arborist report for healthy trees above a size threshold. Critical-area buffers add another layer. We identify what applies during the assessment.
How much does tree removal cost?
+
Cost is driven by what surrounds the tree far more than by its height. An open-drop removal is a fraction of the cost of the same tree climbed and rigged over a house. Diameter, condition and what happens to the wood all factor in. Assessments are free.
Can you remove a tree that is close to my house?
+
Yes — that is the bulk of the work. Trees near structures are climbed and taken down in sections with rigging, which is slower and more controlled than felling. The arborist assessment establishes the plan before anything is cut.
Do you handle emergency and storm-damaged trees?
+
Yes. Uprooted, split and leaning trees after a windstorm need prompt and careful handling, because a partly failed tree is under load and behaves unpredictably. Call rather than submit a form if a tree is on a structure.
Will your equipment damage my lawn?
+
Heavy machinery on soft PNW ground leaves ruts, and anyone claiming otherwise is not being straight with you. We use mats and plan routes to minimise it, and because we own excavation equipment we can repair what does happen — which a tree-only crew cannot.
